Research Approach

Applied AI Research at BUas

The Data Science and AI Professorship at Breda University of Applied Sciences conducts applied research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, data science, and real-world impact. We work with industry partners, European research networks, and students to develop AI solutions that are practical, responsible, and grounded in domain expertise.

What we focus on:

Our research spans three core areas:

  • Responsible AI in Education and Organisations — developing AI systems and frameworks that are transparent, explainable, and aligned with European values.
  • Physical AI and Intelligent Systems — robotics, simulation, and sensor-driven systems applied to logistics, sport, and built environments.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making — applied data science methods for complex operational and strategic problems across sectors.

How we work:

We operate as a connector between academic knowledge and applied context. Research questions come from real problems. Outputs go back into practice, education, and policy. We collaborate with industry partners, EU-funded consortia, and universities across Europe.

Work with us:

The DSAI Professorship is an active partner for organisations and researchers who want to work at the frontier of applied AI. Europe faces a real execution gap between regulatory ambition and operational AI capability. BUas is working to close that gap. If your organisation is navigating the same challenge, we have relevant expertise and an open door.

Research Projects Portfolio

The DSAI Professorship runs a portfolio of funded and internally developed projects. Each project is problem-driven, connected to industry or European networks, and designed to generate outputs that matter beyond the lab.
