Research approach

Applied AI Research at BUas

The Data Science and AI Professorship conducts applied research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, data science, and real-world impact.

We partner with industry, European research networks, and our own students to create practical, responsible AI solutions grounded in domain expertise.

What we work on

Responsible AI in Education and Organisations

Creating transparent, explainable AI systems aligned with European values.

Physical AI and Intelligent Systems

Robotics, simulation, and sensor-driven systems for logistics, sport, and built environments.

Data-Driven Decision Making

Applying data science methods to complex operational and strategic challenges across sectors.

How we work

The professorship acts as a bridge between academic knowledge and practical application. Research starts from genuine organisational problems, and the findings return to practice, education, and policy. That collaboration runs across industry partners, EU-funded consortia, and European universities.

Each project is problem-driven, connected to industry or European networks, and designed to produce something that means anything outside a lab.

Working with us

Europe faces a real execution gap between regulatory ambition and operational AI capability.

That gap is where we are useful. We actively engage organisations and researchers working in applied AI — see what we are working on for current projects, or get in touch.
